Recruitment for 1,270 Clerk Posts in Punjab Courts; Applications Open October 7

The Society for Centralized Recruitment of Staff in Subordinate Courts (SSSC), operating under the Punjab and Haryana High Court, has issued a notification to recruit 1,270 clerks for district courts in Punjab. The online application process for this recruitment will begin on October 7 at 4:00 PM. Eligible candidates can apply until 4:00 PM on November 4, 2026. This is advertisement number 37C/SSSC/PB/2026. These clerk positions will be filled through direct recruitment; candidates are advised to verify the required educational qualifications, as well as criteria regarding Punjabi language proficiency and computer skills, before applying.

According to the notification issued by the SSSC, a total of 1,270 clerk posts across various district courts in Punjab will be filled. Selected candidates will receive a salary based on Level 5, with a pay scale of ₹29,200. Applications must be submitted online via the SSSC website: ssc.gov.in.

Who can apply?

For the clerk position, candidates must hold a BA, BSc, or equivalent degree from a recognized university. Additionally, having studied Punjabi as a subject at the matriculation level is mandatory. Candidates must also possess computer proficiency. The age limit will be calculated as of January 1, 2026. The prescribed age range for the General category is 18 to 37 years. Candidates belonging to SC and BC/OBC categories in Punjab will receive age relaxation in accordance with the rules. Prescribed regulations will also apply to PwBD candidates and ex-servicemen.

What is the application fee? The application fee covers both the online processing fee and the examination fee. The total fee is ₹710 for SC/BC/OBC, ESM, and EWS candidates from Punjab. It is ₹875 for candidates with benchmark disabilities from Punjab, while candidates in other categories must pay ₹1,200.

Written Exam to Carry 100 Marks

The selection process for the clerk recruitment begins with a computer-based written examination. The exam will last two hours and carry a total of 100 marks. It will include 50 objective-type questions on General Knowledge. Additionally, the English section will comprise 20 objective-type questions and a 30-mark subjective component. The subjective section will include an essay (approximately 150 words), letter writing, précis writing, and translation from Punjabi to English. Candidates must secure at least 33% marks in each subject and an aggregate of 40% marks overall to pass the written exam. A negative marking of 0.25 marks will apply for incorrect answers in the objective section.

Computer Test Following the Written Exam

Candidates who qualify in the written examination will be called for a computer proficiency test. This test is qualifying in nature, and the marks obtained will not be included in the final merit list. The CPT will consist of two parts. The first part is a spreadsheet test worth 10 marks, to be completed in 10 minutes; candidates must secure a minimum of 4 marks in this section. This will be followed by an English computer typing test, requiring a minimum speed of 30 words per minute. After qualifying the CPT, candidates will be called for document verification. The final merit list for recruitment will be prepared based on the marks obtained in the written examination.
