Railway Vacancy: News of recruitment for 22,000 Group D posts in the railways recently surfaced. Now, another job opportunity in the railways has come to light. For the first time, the Railway Board is going to directly recruit ex-servicemen for the posts of Pointsman, which fall under the rail safety category. According to a circular issued by the Railway Board, 5058 Pointsman positions will be filled by ex-servicemen on a contract basis across the country. According to the report, a board official stated that these recruitments will be done directly through the ex-servicemen welfare boards of the central or state governments.

A 24-day training program will be provided before appointment to the Pointsman position. Failure to complete the training successfully will result in termination. This appointment will initially be valid until December 31, 2026.  The contract may be extended thereafter with the board's permission. The services of ex-servicemen appointed on a contract basis will be terminated once permanent candidates become available through the Railway Recruitment Cell. It is worth noting that approximately 34,000 Pointsman positions are currently vacant in the railways.

The Importance of the Pointsman Position
According to the report, Railway Board official (Information and Broadcasting) Dilip Kumar stated that the Pointsman position is extremely crucial for the safety of train operations. The appointment of ex-servicemen will strengthen rail safety.
