Railway Recruitment 2025: Hiring for 1.2 Lakh Posts Underway—Check Which Positions Are Open
Indian Railways has once again emerged as one of the biggest government job providers in the country. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed Parliament that over the past 11 years, the Railways has provided employment to more than 5 lakh candidates, and the momentum continues.

7 Recruitment Notifications Issued in 2025
According to the Railway Minister,

In 2024, the Railways issued 10 major recruitment notifications, covering 91,116 posts, and their selection process is still ongoing.

In 2025, 7 more notifications have been released to fill 38,463 posts.
Together, this takes the total recruitment target for FY 2024–25 to approximately 1.2 lakh vacancies.

The Minister also shared long-term employment data:

Between 2004–2014, Railways hired 4.11 lakh employees.

Between 2014–2025, this number rose to 5.08 lakh, highlighting a significant jump in job creation.
He added that the introduction of a Railway Recruitment Calendar has made the process more transparent and predictable for aspirants.
What About Contractual Appointments?
Addressing concerns around contractual hiring, the Minister clarified:

Contract-based roles are temporary.

They are created based on specific operational requirements, and

They are abolished once the assigned work is completed.
This ensures that the permanent recruitment structure remains unaffected.
