Railway Apprentice 2026: Southern Railway has released the notification for apprenticeship recruitment for the year 2026. A total of 4,471 apprentice posts will be filled under this recruitment drive. Of these, 163 posts are designated for 'Fresher' candidates and 4,308 posts for 'Ex-ITI' candidates. Interested and eligible candidates can apply online from August 28, 2026, until 5:00 PM on September 27, 2026.
This recruitment offers apprenticeship opportunities in trades such as Fitter, Electrician, Welder, COPA, Painter, and other related trades. Selected candidates may receive a monthly stipend ranging from ₹8,200 to ₹9,600 during the training period. Educational Qualification
For the 'Fresher' category in Fitter, Painter, and Welder trades, candidates must have secured at least 50% marks in Class 10. For the Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) post, a minimum of 50% marks in Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology subjects is required.
Candidates in the 'Ex-ITI' category must possess an ITI certificate in the relevant trade from an NCVT/SCVT-recognized institute, in addition to securing at least 50% marks in Class 10. Engineering graduates and diploma holders are not eligible for this recruitment.
Age Limit
The minimum age is 15 years and the maximum age is 22 years for the 'Fresher' category. For the 'Ex-ITI' and 'MLT' categories, the maximum age limit is 24 years. Age will be calculated as of September 27, 2026. SC/ST, OBC, PwD (Persons with Disabilities), and Ex-Servicemen candidates will be granted age relaxation in accordance with government regulations.

Candidates can apply online by visiting the official website of Southern Railway. While applying, candidates must provide personal, educational, and trade-related details, and upload their photograph, signature, and necessary certificates.
The application fee is ₹100 for General/UR candidates, whereas SC/ST/PwD candidates are exempted from the fee.
Selection Process
There will be no written examination for this recruitment. Candidates will be selected based on a merit list prepared using the marks obtained in the 10th, 12th, and ITI examinations. This will be followed by document verification, and the final selection will be based on medical fitness.
