Preparations underway to recruit for 10,000 Assistant Professor posts in Bihar; others also get a chance..
Candidates aspiring for careers in higher education in Bihar may receive some great news in the coming months. There is a strong possibility of recruitment for approximately 10,000 Assistant Professor posts. Given the existing vacancies in universities and degree colleges, alongside the newly opened colleges, the scope of this recruitment drive is expected to be extensive. However, deliberations are underway regarding not just the number of posts, but also several significant changes to the recruitment process itself.
Dr. Akhilesh Kumar, an Assistant Professor at Patna University who has been closely monitoring this recruitment drive, stated that the government has constituted a committee to address long-standing demands from candidates regarding age limits, the API (Academic Performance Indicator) system, and the examination pattern. This committee comprises both educationists and administrative officials.
**Recruitment format to be finalized within 90 days**
He informed *Local 18* that the committee has been given a 90-day timeframe to prepare its report. Once this period concludes in November, the government could finalize the draft of recruitment rules and procedures based on the report's findings. This is expected to pave the way for finalizing the regulations and launching the recruitment process. Consequently, the next few months are considered crucial for candidates preparing for jobs in the higher education sector.
**Opportunity possible even without NET or PhD**
He also highlighted that a key aspect of these updates concerns the BET (Bihar Eligibility Test). While the likelihood of conducting the BET was previously considered low, there is now a growing possibility that it will be held. He explained that if the BET is conducted and candidates educated at Bihar universities—who currently lack NET or PhD qualifications—qualify for the test, they could gain the opportunity to apply for permanent Assistant Professor positions. However, actual eligibility criteria will depend on the final regulations. In other words, for candidates who found the lack of NET or PhD qualifications a major hurdle, the BET could serve as a significant opportunity.
**Continued Opposition Regarding API**
There is also opposition among candidates regarding the inclusion of the API (Academic Performance Indicator) in the recruitment process. Some candidates want the API to be excluded from the recruitment criteria, and there have been reports of protests and dissent concerning this issue. However, the final arrangement will only become clear based on the report from the government-appointed committee and the subsequent regulations that are formulated.
**Advice to Start Studying Now**
Dr. Akhilesh Kumar has advised candidates to begin their preparations immediately rather than waiting for the official recruitment announcement. He emphasized the need to base their preparation on the postgraduate syllabus of their respective subjects and the UGC-NET syllabus. He suggested that candidates study using high-quality textbooks and reference materials relevant to their subjects. Seeking advice from subject experts or professors regarding books and preparation strategies could also prove beneficial.
**The Current Period Can Be a Major Asset**
He also noted that the recruitment process—spanning the exam, results, and interviews—could take several months. Consequently, candidates have ample time to strengthen their preparation. The bottom line is that completing preparations before the vacancies are announced is far more advantageous than starting after the notification is released. If candidates strengthen their grasp of the subject matter now, they can avoid the rush of compiling notes and devising strategies within a limited timeframe later; instead, once the exam is announced, they can focus entirely on revision and practice tests.
