Prime Minister Internship Yojana: The pilot project of Pradhan Mantri Internship Yojana (PMIS) has brought golden opportunities of internship for the youth of the country. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that this scheme is giving the youth an opportunity to get practical experience and work in reputed companies. As per the announcement in the Union Budget 2024-25, this scheme aims to provide internships to one crore youth in the top 500 companies of India in the next five years.
In the first round of the pilot project, which started in October 2024, more than 1.27 lakh internship opportunities were provided, in which thousands of youth achieved success. The second round is also getting a good response.
Youth Internship India: What is PMIS?
The PMIS scheme was announced in the Union Budget 2024-25. In October 2024, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs launched a pilot project of this scheme, which aimed to provide 1.25 lakh internship opportunities in a year.
Nirmala Sitharaman Budget: More than 1.27 lakh internship opportunities across the country
In the first round of the pilot project, companies offered more than 1.27 lakh internship opportunities across the country on the PMIS portal. More than 6.21 lakh applications were received from 1.81 lakh candidates for these opportunities. The Finance Minister said that partner companies offered more than 82,000 internship offers to more than 60,000 candidates. Of these, more than 28,000 candidates accepted the offers and about 8700 have joined their internships.
Top 500 Companies India: Good response in the second round too
The second round of the pilot project started on January 9, 2025. In this, partner companies offered more than 1.18 lakh internship opportunities in 735 districts of the country, which included new opportunities and incomplete opportunities of the first round. Youth participated enthusiastically in this round as well. Nirmala Sitharaman said that more than 4.55 lakh applications were received from the applicants. As of 17 July 2025, partner companies have given more than 71,000 job offers, and about 22,500 have been accepted. The process of giving offers and joining of candidates is still going on.
