State-wise recruitment for 500 posts

A total of 500 Assistant posts will be filled under this NICL recruitment drive, with appointments made on a state-wise basis. Candidates participating in the recruitment process may apply for only one state or Union Territory. The highest number of vacancies have been announced for Maharashtra (57), Tamil Nadu (49), West Bengal (46), Rajasthan (36), Kerala (35), Gujarat (34), Uttar Pradesh (24), Delhi (20), and Bihar (12).

Application Terms and Conditions

Educational Qualification: Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university. Additionally, proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking the regional language of the state for which the candidate is applying is mandatory. A regional language test will also be conducted prior to final selection. Age Limit: As of July 1, 2026, candidates must be between 21 and 30 years of age. Age relaxation will be provided to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), Persons with Disabilities (PwBD), Ex-Servicemen, and other reserved categories in accordance with Central Government rules.

Selection Process

Candidates will be selected through three stages:

Online Preliminary Examination
Online Main Examination
Regional Language Test
The Regional Language Test will be qualifying in nature only. The final merit list will be prepared based solely on the marks obtained in the Main Examination.

Exam Pattern

The Preliminary Examination will consist of 100 objective-type questions carrying a total of 100 marks. It will include questions on English Language, Reasoning, and Quantitative Aptitude. The total duration of the exam will be 60 minutes. The Main Examination will consist of 200 questions carrying a total of 200 marks. It will include questions on Reasoning, English Language, Numerical Ability, General Awareness, and Computer Knowledge. The duration of the exam will be 120 minutes.

In both online examinations, negative marking of one-fourth (1/4) of a mark will apply for each incorrect answer, while no marks will be deducted for unattempted questions.

Application Fee

No application fee will be charged to candidates belonging to SC, ST, PwBD, and Ex-Servicemen categories. Candidates from all other categories must pay an application fee of ₹850.
