The Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) has also introduced a major change to the Main Examination pattern this time. Starting in 2027, candidates appearing for the Maharashtra Civil Services (Gazetted Group A and Group B) Main Examination will no longer be required to take optional subject papers. Several other states have already removed optional subjects from their state service main examinations, and Maharashtra has now joined this list. States such as Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar have previously removed optional subjects from their respective state service main examinations.

The Combined Preliminary Examination is scheduled for September 27, 2026. For the first time, this examination will be conducted online in the Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode. According to the MPSC, candidates who succeed in the initial stage will proceed to the next phase of the recruitment process as determined by the Commission.
