The Central Government has introduced a major upgrade for workers enrolled under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). Job card verification and renewal — earlier a lengthy procedure — can now be completed in just one minute through e-KYC on the NMMS mobile application.

This new system is designed to increase transparency, eliminate fake job cards and ensure that every genuine worker gets timely wage payments without hurdles. Since 99.67% active MGNREGA labourers are already Aadhaar-linked, the verification process has become faster, fully digital and highly secure.

What’s New in MGNREGA Job Card Verification?

  • e-KYC now mandatory for job card authentication

  • Verification and renewal to be performed digitally through the NMMS App

  • Aim — transparency, real-time verification and zero fraud

  • Quick confirmation ensures uninterrupted wage disbursal to registered workers

The Rural Development Ministry has confirmed that this method will become the primary verification mechanism across the country.

Where Will the New System Be Implemented?

MGNREGA operations span nearly 2.69 lakh gram panchayats nationwide. The e-KYC system will be rolled out across all these regions so that no verification remains pending and every worker continues receiving benefits smoothly.

In addition, job cards will undergo renewal every 5 years, and states have been directed to use the NMMS app’s built-in KYC feature to simplify the process.

1-Minute e-KYC Process: Step-by-Step

Since almost all workers are Aadhaar-linked, verification can be completed with a live face check. Here’s how:

  1. A village-level employee (assistant, worksite supervisor, mate or Panchayat official) initiates e-KYC via the NMMS mobile app

  2. A live photo of the worker is captured through the app

  3. The image is instantly matched with Aadhaar records

  4. If the face matches, verification is completed within 60 seconds

No paperwork, no long queues — just live biometric match and approval.

Why This Update Matters

The goal behind this reform is straightforward — every labourer should receive wages on time, without delays or discrepancies. Digital verification drastically reduces fraud and ensures that only legitimate workers remain registered under the scheme.

With seamless authentication and quick renewal cycles, the government aims to build a faster, transparent and worker-friendly MGNREGA ecosystem.

This e-KYC upgrade marks a significant step toward efficiency, empowering crores of rural households dependent on MGNREGA for livelihood and security.
