Karnataka Teacher Recruitment 2026: Central and state governments frequently initiate various recruitment drives for government teachers. There is now good news for candidates aspiring to become government teachers; the Karnataka government has approved the recruitment of 15,000 teachers for the state's government primary and high schools. The state cabinet has paved the way for this recruitment process by approving the "Karnataka Education Services (Special Rules for Recruitment to Certain Teaching Posts) 2026."

The Department of School Education and Literacy will soon issue a detailed recruitment notification, following which the application process will commence. According to the state government, this recruitment drive aims to fill teacher vacancies that have remained unfilled for a long time. The Education Department has been instructed to initiate the entire selection process in accordance with the prescribed recruitment rules. The government stated that while school operations were previously managed using guest teachers pending regular recruitment, the process for permanent appointments will now begin.

How many posts will be filled in which regions?

As per the government's approval, the 15,000 posts are divided into two regions: 6,967 posts for the Kalyana Karnataka region and 8,033 posts for the non-Kalyana Karnataka region. The posts for the Kalyana Karnataka region include 3,328 Graduate Primary Teacher posts, 2,214 Assistant Master posts, 800 Primary School Teacher posts, 425 Physical Education Teacher posts, and 300 Computer Science Teacher posts. Meanwhile, the posts for the non-Kalyana Karnataka region include 5,272 Graduate Primary Teacher positions, 2,286 Assistant Master posts, 100 Primary School Teacher posts, 175 Physical Education Teacher posts, and 200 Computer Science Teacher posts.

Notification to be released soon

School Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa stated that Karnataka had previously focused on reforming the teacher recruitment process and the education system, which caused some delay in regular recruitment. Now, following Cabinet approval, the final recruitment notification will be issued shortly, and the selection process for eligible candidates will commence. He added that the department has been instructed to complete all procedures in accordance with established recruitment rules to ensure that appointments are made as quickly as possible.

Operations were previously managed by guest teachers

According to the government, guest teachers had been appointed on a temporary basis to address the shortage of teachers in many state-run schools. However, this was merely an interim arrangement. Now, the vacant posts will be filled through the recruitment of regular teachers, thereby strengthening the teaching system in government schools.
