The central government has taken a significant decision to accelerate the development of the country's hilly and remote areas. Under this decision, for the first time, local young engineers will be given the opportunity for temporary employment in government public sector undertakings. The objective is not only to provide employment but also to give young people practical experience in modern technology, project management, and on-the-ground work. This will boost infrastructure development in the hilly states, provide opportunities for local talent to flourish, and reduce the problem of migration.

Local Engineers to Get Opportunities in Government Companies
Under this historic step by the central government, the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, will for the first time recruit local engineers temporarily. In the first phase of the scheme, 64 civil engineers will be recruited in February. This recruitment will be reserved exclusively for local graduate youth from the hilly states of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and the northeastern states.

Development of Hilly Areas to Gain Momentum
According to officials, local engineers have a better understanding of the geographical challenges, weather, and ecology of the hilly regions. Involving them in projects such as national highways, tunnels, and bridges will improve both the speed and quality of work. The youth will gain experience in state-of-the-art technology and project management, which they can utilize in the future to contribute to the development of their regions in collaboration with state governments.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be domiciled in the respective state or union territory. A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent degree from an IIT, NIT, or one of the top 100 institutions in the engineering category of the NIRF ranking is required. Final year students can also apply, provided they complete their degree before the appointment. Work experience of 0 to 2 years will be considered.
