Jobs for Freshers: Freshers are having a tough time getting a job. The situation is such that companies are not providing employment even after giving the final offer. Some even shortlisted the candidates but did not give the offer letter. Many refused to give jobs even after providing the final offer.

Fresh graduates in some top colleges are facing one of the toughest placement years ever. According to college sources and top company officials, admissions by major organizations have declined by more than half. Indian companies have become cautious about hiring new people due to less need for people amid economic challenges and tensions and turmoil between countries. According to officials of about half a dozen undergraduate institutions, many candidates are waiting for their final interview. Some candidates have been kept in limbo even after several rounds of interviews.

Twice as many companies came for campus interviews
Placement percentage has declined as compared to last year in Mumbai's prominent colleges like St. Xavier's, Jai Hind, Father Agnel, and St. Francis Institute of Technology. At St. Xavier's, one of the leading UG colleges, placement numbers this year were lower than in previous years. However, twice as many companies came for campus interviews.

The recruitment ratio was up to 70%
This year, around 89 companies came for placements at St. Xavier's College. Last year, 40-42 companies had come. The number of recruitments by big companies was 50-70 percent as compared to last year. Top recruiters included Accenture, IDFC, Hindustan Unilever, EY, ICICI, HSBC and Deloitte.

Recruitment was reduced due to the recession and AI.
Companies say that recruitment is declining due to recessionary trends, AI-driven disruptions, and a lack of preparation among students. Companies prefer candidates with at least 2-3 years of experience. They consider fresh graduates risky as they leave the company soon to pursue further studies.

Results not commensurate with salary

Many companies believe that the salary offered to freshers does not match the results. If we are paying Rs 6-9 lakh per annum, we should get results. In some colleges, 15-30 percent of the batch has got placements so far. In other colleges, the figure is 5 percent or even less. Placements for the current batch began last August and will continue till this June.

Recruitment postponed till November

Consultancy, brokerage, IT, and manufacturing were once the biggest recruiting sectors. They have now either postponed joining dates to around November or have drastically cut down on recruits. Some small and medium-sized companies are demanding a mandatory service bond of 1.5 to 3 years. Medium-sized companies are offering salaries up to Rs 5 lakh per annum and large companies are offering salaries up to Rs 10 lakh.
