The Jammu and Kashmir Service Selection Board (JKSSB) has announced a one-day window for submission of new application forms for candidates who have crossed the age limit for the JK Police Constable Recruitment Exam. According to reports, 5,59,135 candidates were originally scheduled to appear for the exam to be held on December 1, 8 and 22, 2024 for 4002 posts of Constable (Home Department), but now the number of candidates is likely to increase further.

The new forms will be accepted today, November 30, 2024 only in offline format as the exams will be conducted as per schedule over three days starting from December 1. The written examination for Armed/IRP/Executive/SDRF category candidates is scheduled on 1 December 2024, while the examinations for Telecom and Photographer posts are scheduled on 8 December and 22 December.

Exam will be held at so many centers

Constable (Executive/Armed/SDRF) examinations will be held on 1 December at 856 centers in the districts, for which 2,62,863 candidates will appear in the UT, out of which the highest number of 54,296 candidates will appear from Jammu district. Similarly, for Constable (Telecom), 1,67,609 candidates will appear in the examination to be held on 08 December and 1,28,663 candidates will appear in the Constable (Photographer) examination on 22 December this year.

Number will increase

But the number is likely to increase after the interim order of the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court on November 29, directing the JKSSB to provisionally consider these candidates to allow them to participate in the recruitment process. In the petition WP(C) No. 2159/2024 titled Deepak Sharma and 78 others vs UT of J&K and others, the listed candidates had challenged the age restrictions imposed on the recruitment, citing delay in the recruitment process due to the COVID-19 pandemic as no recruitment could be done for two years.

Permission after court order

The interim order of the court has allowed the petitioners to appear in the upcoming examinations, although their participation will not guarantee them preferential treatment and any final appointment will depend on the court's decision. As per the court's direction, the JKSSB has informed the concerned candidates that their application forms will be received in offline mode.
