Indian Railway Vacancy 2026: The Railways has announced a major recruitment drive for trade apprentices in Western Railway. There are a total of 5,349 positions, and this recruitment is open to 10th-grade and ITI-qualified candidates. The best part is that there will be no written exam or interview. Selection will be based solely on a merit list based on 10th-grade and ITI-qualified marks, meaning there will be no exam or interview for these positions.

When will you apply?
The online application process will begin on February 21, 2026. The deadline is March 23, 2026. Applications must be submitted online only through the official website, www.rrc-wr.com.

What are the required qualifications?
The following are the key qualifications for all positions:
- Passing the 10th grade with at least 50% marks.
- An NCVT-approved ITI certificate in the relevant trade is required.

How many positions are available for each trade?
The highest number of vacancies is for fitters, with 1,614. Similarly, there are 1,217 positions for electricians, 532 for welders, 420 for machinists, 236 for electronic mechanics, 207 for diesel mechanics,

There are 190 vacancies for turners, 184 for electricians, and 184 for refrigeration and AC mechanics. There are also vacancies for painters, plumbers, wiremen, instrument mechanics, carpenters, sheet metal mechanics, fitters, and heat treaters.

What is the age limit?
Candidates must be between 15 and 24 years of age as on the last date of application, March 23, 2026, meaning their date of birth must be between March 24, 2002, and March 23, 2011. Reserved categories will receive relaxation as per the rules. This includes 3 years for OBCs, 5 years for SC/STs, and 10 years for persons with disabilities.

How will the selection be conducted?
Selection will be based solely on merit. Marks obtained in 10th and ITI will be given equal weightage.

The system will automatically generate a merit list. Candidates who qualify will be called for document verification.

What is the application fee?
General and OBC candidates will have to pay an application fee of ₹100. SC/ST, persons with disabilities, and female candidates will not have to pay any fee. The fee must be paid online via credit/debit card, net banking, or SBI e-Pay. Once paid, the fee is non-refundable.

Training and Stipend
Selected candidates will receive a 1-year training program. A stipend will be provided during the training period as per the rules.

Upon completion of this training, an apprenticeship certificate will be awarded. This apprenticeship is reserved for 20% of the posts in Railway Group D (RRB Group D).
