Candidates with an engineering background will be given preference for this position; however, in exceptional cases, candidates with backgrounds in Science, Mathematics, or Management may also be considered.

Candidates applying for this position must possess extensive experience. A strong academic record is required. Furthermore, a minimum of 10 years of teaching experience as a professor at a reputed engineering/technology institute or university is mandatory. Candidates should also have administrative experience and experience in guiding PhD students. Applicants must be under 60 years of age.

**Substantial salary for the Director**
The Director of IIT Delhi will receive a fixed monthly salary of ₹2.25 lakh, in addition to various allowances; the total remuneration could exceed ₹2.5 lakh. The appointment is for a term of five years, which may be extended. The Director can serve in the position up to a maximum age of 70 years.

**Required documents**
To apply for the Director's post, candidates must prepare a resume containing all relevant details, including information on research, teaching experience, educational background, and other pertinent particulars. In addition, a two-page justification statement must be submitted, explaining why the candidate is the best fit for the position.
