Ex-Servicemen Jobs: Railways will provide jobs to retired fire warriors and soldiers, new framework of cooperation implemented..
Army Personnel Jobs: Indian Railways and the Indian Army have implemented a new 'Framework of Cooperation' to strengthen institutional collaboration. The objective is to provide better employment opportunities to Agniveers and retired soldiers after military service and facilitate their smooth transition to civilian life.
This initiative has been launched under the supervision of senior leadership from the Army and the Ministry of Railways. It will increase awareness about available jobs in the Railways and create a dedicated support system for retired soldiers.
Reservation and Employment Opportunities
Under Railway policy:
Ex-servicemen have a 10% horizontal reservation in Level 2 and above positions and a 20% reservation in Level 1 positions.
For former Agniveers, 5% reservation is provided in Level 2/above positions and 10% in Level 1 positions.
A total of 14,788 posts were reserved for ex-servicemen in the railway recruitments for the years 2024 and 2025, of which 6,485 were at Level 1 and 8,303 at Level 2/above.
Recruitment Process and New Initiatives
Recruitment for Level 1 (formerly Group D) is conducted through competitive examinations through Railway Recruitment Centres (RRCs), and for Level 2/above, recruitment is conducted through Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs).
To expedite filling of vacancies, the Railways have decided to hire ex-servicemen on a contract basis for the post of 'Pointsman' until regular recruitment is completed. The process for more than 5,000 Level 1 posts is currently underway at the zonal and divisional levels. Nine railway divisions have signed MoUs with military organizations so far.
Strategic Cooperation Also Strengthened
Cooperation between the Railways and the Army plays a vital role in logistics and the movement of troops. Projects such as the Dedicated Freight Corridors and the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link have strengthened the Army's rapid deployment capabilities.
This framework is considered a major step towards further strengthening national infrastructure and security coordination, ensuring better utilization of the experience, discipline, and technical proficiency of veterans.
