EMRS Recruitment Guidelines: Changed rules for recruitment in Eklavya residential schools, language will no longer be a barrier, learn about other changes..

EMRS Recruitment Guidelines: The National Education Society for Tribal Studies (NESTS) has amended the recruitment process for teaching and non-teaching staff at Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS). This decision was made following a review by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. The primary objective of this change is to provide opportunities to candidates from diverse states and linguistic backgrounds. Specifically, candidates have been relieved of the Hindi language requirement.
Let's explore the changes in the EMRS recruitment process rules. What are the new guidelines?
Evaluation will now be based on three languages.
The language proficiency of candidates for the Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT) position in EMRS will now be assessed in English, Hindi, and their chosen regional language. This component will carry a total of 30 marks, with a minimum score of 12 required. However, this will be qualifying in nature, meaning it will not impact the overall merit list.
Relief for Female Staff Nurses, Strictness Remains for PGTs
According to the new guidelines, the Hindi language requirement for female staff nurse positions has been relaxed, but knowledge of Hindi remains mandatory for Post Graduate Teacher (PGT) positions. PGTs typically teach classes 9 to 12, so the government has retained the Hindi requirement at this level.
Relief Given to Candidates
In a recent meeting between the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and state-level departments, Andhra Pradesh expressed its concerns regarding the language requirement. States like Bihar and Tamil Nadu have not yet signed an agreement with NESTS, which is why the recruitment process is being conducted at the state level.
Recruitment for 7,267 Posts
Under the new recruitment process, NESTS will recruit for 7,267 posts. These include 3,962 TGT positions, 1,460 PGT positions, 225 principals, 635 hostel wardens, and 550 female staff nurses. The Ministry of Finance has approved a total of 38,480 posts, of which 10,391 posts were recruited in the first phase in 2023.
The Journey of EMRS
EMRS was launched in 1997-98 to provide quality education and hostel facilities to children from tribal areas from grades 6 to 12. In 2018-19, the scheme was made a Central Sector Scheme. To date, 722 schools have been approved across the country, of which 479 are operational and 235 are under construction. These schools have approximately 1.46 lakh students and employ approximately 13,437 staff.
