The Central Government has decided to undertake a major expansion of posts within the Enforcement Directorate (ED). An order issued by the Department of Revenue under the Ministry of Finance has sanctioned new recruitments and posts across various departments of the ED. According to the order, the most significant increase in posts has occurred within the ED's Investigation Wing. The number of posts for Additional Directors has been increased from 10 to 24; similarly, posts for Joint Directors have risen from 28 to 49, Deputy Directors from 148 to 267, and Assistant Directors from 255 to 531. Meanwhile, the number of posts for Enforcement Officers has been increased from 355 to 606, and for Assistant Enforcement Officers from 425 to 803.

Furthermore, the number of senior-level posts—such as Joint Director, Deputy Director, and Additional Director—has also been augmented. Additionally, new posts have been created within the ED's Legal Wing to expedite case hearings and legal proceedings. The order also authorizes the creation of several new posts within the Adjudication Wing, Systems Department, Ministerial Staff, and Security Department. Moreover, within the Security Department, the number of posts for Senior Constables has been increased from 209 to 273. The government has stated that this decision was taken in view of the rising volume of cases and the increasing workload related to investigations. The creation of these new posts is expected to bolster the ED's investigative capabilities and accelerate the pace of case investigations.

**What is the role of the ED?**
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is a premier investigative agency of the Government of India, primarily tasked with investigating cases involving money laundering, violations of foreign exchange laws, and economic crimes. The agency functions under the aegis of the Department of Revenue within the Ministry of Finance. While officers and staff are recruited at various levels within the ED, the most popular recruitment drive is for the post of Assistant Enforcement Officer (AEO). This recruitment is conducted through the SSC CGL (Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level) examination.

Eligibility Criteria for Assistant Enforcement Officer
Candidates applying for this position through the SSC CGL must hold a bachelor's degree from a recognized university, and their age must fall within the range of 18 to 30 years. However, candidates belonging to reserved categories are granted relaxation in the upper age limit. The selection process for this recruitment consists of three stages: the Tier-1 and Tier-2 examinations, followed by document verification as the final step.

Recruitment of Officers via Deputation
In addition to the SSC CGL examination, officers from the IAS, IPS, and IRS cadres are also posted to the ED on deputation. These officers are frequently appointed to positions such as Assistant Director, Deputy Director, and Joint Director.
