The Basic Education Department has clarified the position regarding the Special TET. The department stated that teachers who have already passed the TET or CTET will not be required to pass the Special TET again.
The Basic Education Department has clarified the situation regarding the Special TET to be conducted for teachers and special educators working in Uttar Pradesh. Teachers who have already qualified in the TET or CTET do not need to pass the Special TET. However, teachers who have not yet succeeded in the TET or CTET must apply for and appear in the Special TET examination. Parth Sarthi Sen Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary of the Basic and Secondary Education Department, has issued directives in this regard. Following the government's instructions, the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission has released the notification for the Special TET 2026. The examination will be held on November 3, 2026.
Which teachers are eligible for the Special TET?
The Special TET is being organized for teachers and special educators working at the primary level. This covers teachers instructing students in classes 1 to 5. Eligible candidates include teachers working in Basic Education Council schools, local body schools, schools recognized or affiliated with the state government or the Basic Education Council, and government-aided schools. Special educators at the primary level will also be eligible to take the exam. Similarly, eligible teachers and special educators teaching classes 6 to 8 at the upper primary level will also be given the opportunity to appear for the exam.
Relief for teachers who have passed TET and CTET
The Education Department has provided a crucial clarification regarding teachers who have already qualified in the TET or CTET; for such teachers, passing the Special TET again is not mandatory. Conversely, teachers who have not yet passed the TET must register and apply in accordance with the official notification for the Special TET and appear for the examination.
Application Process Began on September 5
The notification for the Special TET was issued by the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission on September 3, 2026. The online registration and application process for this commenced on September 5. The deadline for submitting the application fee is October 4, while the window for making corrections to the application form will remain open until October 8. Subsequently, the examination will be conducted on November 3, 2026.
Instructions to Inform All Eligible Teachers
Instructions have been issued to the Basic Education Officer to disseminate information regarding the Special TET to the concerned teachers, ensuring that eligible candidates can complete the registration and application process within the stipulated timeframe. Through this initiative, the department has clarified the eligibility criteria for special educators and other serving teachers to appear for the exam, as well as the status regarding the application process.
