Jobs: Officials said on Friday that the Delhi Legislative Assembly is now planning to hire people who can mimic the calls of langur monkeys. The aim is to control the problem of monkeys constantly entering the assembly premises.

According to officials, there are dozens of monkeys in the area that are causing trouble. These monkeys jump on wires and dish antennas, damaging them and posing a threat to both security and property within the assembly complex.

Measures to control monkeys in the Assembly
This step has been taken in the wake of repeated incidents of monkeys entering the assembly premises, which pose a threat to the safety of MLAs, staff, and visitors. An official said that the Public Works Department (PWD) has issued a tender for the deployment of trained personnel capable of mimicking langur calls. This is considered an effective and humane way to scare away the monkeys without harming them.

The experts will also bring a langur monkey to scare away the other monkeys. He further added, "There were also plans to install langur effigies, but we have observed that the monkeys are no longer afraid of them. Instead, they sit on top of those effigies."

Trained personnel to handle monkey control in 8-hour shifts
The official said that they previously had people who mimicked langur calls, but their contract expired. A new tender has been issued to hire trained individuals capable of mimicking langur calls.

Officials said they plan to deploy trained operators on weekdays and Saturdays, with each person working an eight-hour shift. An official said that the agency will also be responsible for ensuring proper equipment, discipline, and adherence to safety norms during the operation.

He further added that there will be performance-based monitoring and insurance coverage for the deployed personnel. In 2017, one of these furry visitors had entered the House and disrupted a discussion on guest teachers in government schools.
