Data Centre Boom Jobs in India: A windfall for engineers! India’s data center boom to generate 100,000 jobs by 2030.
Data Centre Boom Jobs in India: According to a new report, India’s data center industry will require approximately 100,000 engineers and technical professionals by 2030.
Data Centre Boom Jobs in India: As the demand for data surges in the digital era, the country’s network of data centers is expanding rapidly. Driven by the increasing adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and digital services, India’s data center sector is witnessing swift expansion. Consequently, in the coming years, the sector will not merely be about technological growth; it will also create fresh employment opportunities for lakhs of young people. A new report indicates that the industry will need around 100,000 engineers and technical professionals by 2030. Let us explore why this sector is growing so fast and which areas will see the highest demand for jobs.
Demand for 100,000 Engineers by 2030
According to a report by NLB Services, India’s data center industry could generate a demand for approximately 100,000 skilled professionals by 2030. The country’s installed data center capacity is projected to rise from the current ~1.5 gigawatts (GW) to nearly 6.5 GW by the end of the decade. Meanwhile, the industry’s market value could exceed $22 billion. The report also notes that investment commitments totaling over $126 billion have already been announced for this sector, making it one of the country’s fastest-growing infrastructure sectors.
Skill Gap Could Pose the Biggest Challenge
The report further highlights that if a sufficient number of trained professionals are not prepared in time, the skill gap could become a major hurdle in the sector’s rapid growth trajectory. Experts believe that educational institutions, the industry, and policymakers must collaborate to prepare the youth for future requirements, thereby meeting the growing demand of the data center industry.
AI and Digital Infrastructure Driving Job Demand
According to Sachin Alug, CEO of NLB Services, the expansion of data centers and AI infrastructure in India presents a significant opportunity for the country’s youth. As digital transformation accelerates across the nation, there is a steadily rising demand for experts in fields such as AI infrastructure, cloud operations, automation, power systems, and critical facility management. He notes that this is an opportunity to cultivate a workforce that will strengthen India’s digital economy for years to come.
Which Skills Will Be in Highest Demand?
According to the report, the increasing adoption of AI is driving a rapid rise in demand for professionals skilled in AI Infrastructure Engineering, Cloud Operations, Platform Engineering, DevOps, MLOps, and Data Center Automation. It is estimated that AI workloads will account for approximately 30 percent of India’s total data center capacity in the near future. Consequently, an understanding of AI infrastructure is becoming an essential skill for engineers. There is also a rapidly growing demand for various new roles related to data center physical infrastructure. These include positions such as AI Infrastructure Operations Engineer, Liquid Cooling Engineer, Energy Optimization Specialist, Critical Facilities Engineer, and Power Systems Expert.
