CSL Apprentice Recruitment 2026: Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has issued a notification for the Rigger Trainee Apprentice recruitment for 2026. Under this recruitment drive, applications are invited for a total of 40 posts. The online application process for these positions commenced on May 6, 2026.
A total of 40 vacancies have been released for the Rigger Trainee Apprentice recruitment 2026. Of these, 16 posts have been allocated for the General (UR) category, 13 posts for Other Backward Classes (OBC), 7 posts for Scheduled Castes (SC), and 4 posts for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS).
What are the Eligibility Criteria?
To be eligible for this position, a candidate must have passed at least the 8th grade. Candidates holding a Graduation degree, a Diploma, or any higher educational qualification are not eligible to apply for this recruitment. In other words, only candidates who have passed the 8th grade are eligible to apply for this post.
As of the last date for online applications (May 30, 2026), a candidate's age must be a minimum of 18 years and a maximum of 23 years. This implies that the applicant's date of birth must fall between May 31, 2003, and May 31, 2008.
Furthermore, in accordance with government regulations, candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes (OBC – Non-Creamy Layer) will be granted a relaxation of 3 years in the upper age limit. Similarly, candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes (SC) and the Scheduled Tribes (ST) will be entitled to an age relaxation benefit of 5 years.

How Will Selection Be Conducted?
Selection will be based primarily on a Physical Test, which will carry a maximum of 100 marks. Candidates who fulfill the requisite eligibility criteria will first be called to appear for the Physical Test.
Before the test, the candidates' documents—such as identity proof, age proof, educational certificates, and reservation-related certificates—will undergo verification. Only those candidates whose documents are found to be authentic and in order will be allowed to proceed further in the selection process. In the event of a large number of applicants, candidates will be shortlisted at a ratio of 6 candidates for every available seat.
If the volume of applications received is exceptionally high, a preliminary screening (written) examination may be conducted to identify suitable candidates. Only those who qualify in this screening test will subsequently be permitted to participate in the Physical Test.
Minimum Qualifying Marks and Ranking Rules for the Physical Test
Minimum qualifying marks for passing the Physical Test have been prescribed for different categories. Candidates belonging to the General and EWS (Economically Weaker Sections) categories must secure a minimum of 50 marks, whereas the threshold is set at 45 marks for candidates from Other Backward Classes (OBC) and 40 marks for candidates from Scheduled Castes (SC).
The final merit list (rank list) will be prepared exclusively based on the performance in the Physical Test. If two or more candidates secure identical marks, their relative ranking will be determined based on age; specifically, priority will be accorded to the older candidate.
