What are the required qualifications?
Candidates must have secured at least 55% marks in the 10th standard (or equivalent) examination with science subjects. For the relevant trade, candidates must fulfill the qualification criteria through one of the following three routes:
A valid ITI or National/State Trade Certificate in the relevant trade.
Two years of full-time experience as an apprentice in the relevant trade.
Three years of work experience in the relevant trade within a ministry, government department, public sector undertaking, or autonomous body.
What are the job responsibilities for each post?
The nature of work varies by trade; therefore, candidates should understand the responsibilities associated with their specific trade and post before applying.
Fitter: Tasks include maintaining workshop machinery and assembling components for opto-mechanical equipment.
Plumber: Tasks involve cleaning drainage systems and maintaining water distribution and wastewater disposal systems.
Electrician: Tasks include maintaining electrical substations, generators, motors, and transformer windings, as well as internal wiring.
Computer/IT Assistant: Tasks involve managing Local Area Networks (LAN) and the institute's internal network, uploading content to the website, and operating ID card printers.
Digital Photographer: Tasks involve digital photography, videography, and photo editing.
Laboratory Assistant: Tasks involve managing logbooks, records, and supplies for the chemistry laboratory.
Medical Laboratory Technician: Tasks involve conducting diagnostic tests in the institute's dispensary laboratory.
Physiotherapy Technician: Tasks involve assisting medical officers, operating relevant equipment, and performing physiotherapy duties on a shift basis.
Catering and Hospitality Assistant: Tasks involve managing the guest house and canteen. Experience in catering, tourism, and guest house management is advantageous. Work may be required at odd hours or during emergencies as needed.
What is the age requirement?
The general age limit for these posts is 18 to 28 years. Age will be calculated as of the application deadline, i.e., October 4, 2026. Candidates from various categories will be eligible for age relaxation as per regulations.
What is the salary?
Selected candidates will be appointed at Pay Level-2. The pay scale ranges from ₹19,900 to ₹63,200. Based on the minimum basic pay for a Class ‘X’ city, the gross monthly salary is estimated to be around ₹39,970.
In addition, benefits such as Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, Transport Allowance, reimbursement of medical expenses, travel concessions, and children's education allowance will be provided.
Appointed employees will be covered under the National Pension System. House Rent Allowance will not be payable if accommodation is provided by the institute.
An All-India service liability applies to this post. This means the employee may be required to serve at any CSIR laboratory or unit anywhere in the country.
How will the selection take place?
The selection process will consist of two stages:
First, a trade test will be conducted.
This will be followed by a written competitive examination.
The trade test will be a practical, qualifying examination designed to assess the candidate's practical skills in their respective trade. Qualifying the trade test is mandatory, but the marks obtained will not be included in the final merit list.
How many questions will there be in the written examination?
The written examination will consist of three papers. There will be a total of 150 questions, and the duration of the exam will be two and a half hours.

What is the application fee?
