Changes in BPSC 72nd Recruitment: DSP Posts Reduced; Recruitment Now for 1,187 Posts

According to the revised notification issued by the BPSC, the original advertisement had designated 22 posts for Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) under the Bihar Police Service. These vacancies have now been revised to 20 posts.

An update regarding the BPSC 72nd Combined Competitive Examination has been released for candidates preparing for government jobs in Bihar. The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has modified the recruitment vacancies. According to the new notice issued by the Commission, the number of DSP posts in the Bihar Police Service has been reduced from 22 to 20. With this change, the total recruitment under the 72nd Combined Competitive Examination will now cover 1,187 posts.

Reduction in DSP Posts

As per the revised notification issued by the BPSC, the original advertisement had allocated 22 DSP posts under the Bihar Police Service; this figure has now been revised to 20. The revised breakdown for DSP posts includes 10 General category posts (with four reserved for women), 2 EWS posts, 1 SC post, 1 ST post, and 5 EBC posts. Of the 5 EBC posts, two are reserved for women, while 1 post is designated for the OBC category. The minimum age limit for these posts is 22 years.

Recruitment Now for 1,187 Posts

Following the change in DSP vacancies, the total number of vacancies under the 72nd Combined Competitive Examination now stands at 1,187. This represents a reduction of 43 posts compared to the 1,230 posts announced in the original advertisement issued in May. The Commission’s revised notice also clarifies that there have been no changes to the other terms and conditions of the advertisement.

BPSC Revised Vacancies

Regarding the revised vacancies, the Commission had previously removed the recruitment process for 44 Cane Officer posts. These posts fell under the Sugarcane Industries Department. According to the Commission, under the Bihar Sugarcane Development Rules 2025, the position of Sugarcane Officer is categorized alongside roles such as Assistant Director (Sugarcane Development) and similar posts. The eligibility criteria and examination pattern for these positions differ from those of the Combined Competitive Examination (CCE). Consequently, these 44 posts have been excluded from the BPSC 72nd CCE recruitment process.

Preliminary Exam Held on July 26

The BPSC conducted the 72nd CCE preliminary examination on July 26, 2026. The exam was held in offline mode. The preliminary stage consists of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) based on General Studies. The exam carries a total of 150 marks, with a duration of two hours. There is also a provision for negative marking, where one-third of a mark is deducted for each incorrect answer. The preliminary examination serves as a screening stage, and candidates are shortlisted for the main examination based on their performance in it.
