How much salary does the CBI Director get?

The CBI Director is given the same salary as a secretary level officer of the Government of India. Currently, the officer working on this post gets a salary of about Rs 2.25 lakh every month. This salary is decided by combining basic pay and some limited allowances. Since this post is very sensitive, any kind of extra facilities or VIP treatment is kept limited, so that the impartiality of the investigation is maintained.

What allowances are given?

The basic salary of the CBI Director is considered to be Rs 80,000 per month. Apart from this, he is given many important allowances-

Dearness Allowance (DA): About 120% of basic pay

Special Incentive Allowance: About 15%

Other allowances: Government car, accommodation, medical facility etc. are available at a limited level

Including all these, the total salary of the CBI Director is between Rs 1.60 lakh to Rs 2.25 lakh per month.

How much will the salary increase due to the 8th Pay Commission?

If the recommendations of the 8th Pay Commission are approved by the Central Government, then the salary of the CBI Director can increase significantly. It is believed that if there is an increase of 20-25%, then his salary can increase to Rs 2.70 lakh per month. However, its final decision will depend on the approval of the government.

How can one join CBI directly?

The way to direct recruitment in CBI opens through SSC CGL examination. This examination is conducted every year by the Staff Selection Commission. Candidates who fulfill the educational qualification, age and physical standards can sit in this examination. Those who get top rank are appointed to various posts in CBI. Selected candidates are also given special training, so that they can become proficient in the investigation process.
