Thousands of government job aspirants in Bihar have received an unexpected setback ahead of the new year. The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has officially postponed the Assistant Education Development Officer (AEDO) recruitment examination, which was scheduled to be conducted between January 10 and January 16, 2026. The decision has impacted nearly 9.7 lakh candidates who had applied for the highly competitive examination.

The announcement has created uncertainty among aspirants who were in the final stages of preparation and had already planned their schedules around the exam dates.

Official Notice Issued, Reason Not Clearly Mentioned

BPSC released an official notification confirming that the AEDO written (objective-type) competitive examination under Advertisement Number 87/2025 has been deferred due to “unavoidable reasons.” However, the commission did not specify the exact cause behind the postponement.

According to the notice, the exam that was to be held from January 10 to January 16, 2026 (excluding January 14) will now be rescheduled. The commission stated that fresh exam dates will be announced soon and will be published on the official BPSC website. Candidates have been advised to regularly check the website for the latest updates.

One of Bihar’s Largest Recruitment Exams

The AEDO recruitment examination has emerged as one of the largest competitive exams ever conducted by BPSC. Around 9.7 lakh applications were received for this recruitment drive, making it larger than previous high-volume exams such as the Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE) and the Combined Competitive Examination (CCE).

Given the massive number of applicants and the logistical challenges involved, the exam was already considered a major administrative exercise for the commission.

Exam Was Planned in Multiple Phases

As per the original schedule, the written examination was to be conducted in several phases over a week:

  • General Studies: January 10 and 11, 2026

  • Optional Subject: January 12, 2026

  • Compulsory Papers: January 13, 15, and 16, 2026

With the postponement, the entire exam calendar has been canceled, and candidates are now awaiting a revised schedule.

Recruitment for 935 Posts

Under this recruitment process, BPSC aims to fill 935 Assistant Education Development Officer posts across Bihar. The category-wise distribution of vacancies is as follows:

  • Unreserved (UR): 374 posts

  • Economically Weaker Section (EWS): 93 posts

  • Scheduled Caste (SC): 150 posts

  • Scheduled Tribe (ST): 10 posts

  • Extremely Backward Class (EBC): 168 posts

  • Backward Class (BC): 112 posts

  • Backward Class Women: 28 posts

Due to the limited number of posts and the large applicant pool, the competition level for this exam is extremely high.

Selection Process and Salary Details

The selection process for the BPSC AEDO recruitment consists of only one stage—a written examination. There will be no interview round. The exam will feature objective-type questions, and negative marking of one-third mark will apply for each incorrect answer.

The examination will be conducted across three papers:

  1. General Language (Hindi and English)

  2. General Studies

  3. General Aptitude

Candidates who clear the written exam will be appointed under Pay Level 5, with a starting basic salary of approximately ₹29,200 per month, along with other allowances as per Bihar government norms.

Candidates Express Concern and Anxiety

The postponement has caused disappointment and anxiety among aspirants, many of whom had planned their study schedules, travel arrangements, and leave from work specifically for the exam dates. The lack of clarity regarding the reason and the absence of new dates have further added to the uncertainty.

Despite the delay, experts advise candidates to continue their preparation without losing momentum, as the revised exam dates could be announced at short notice. Aspirants are strongly encouraged to rely only on official BPSC notifications and avoid rumors circulating on social media.

What Candidates Should Do Next

Until the new exam schedule is released, candidates should focus on revising the syllabus, practicing mock tests, and staying updated through the official BPSC website. Once the revised dates are announced, the commission is expected to issue fresh admit cards and detailed instructions.

For now, patience and consistent preparation remain key as nearly one million aspirants await clarity on one of Bihar’s most significant recruitment examinations.
