However, the recruitment of retired personnel for Pointsmen positions will be on a contract basis. Nine zones of the Indian Railways have reached an agreement with the Indian Army regarding this.
The first batch of Agniveers will retire at the end of this year.
The first batch of soldiers recruited under the Agnipath Seva Yojana (Fire Warriors) in the Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Air Force will retire at the end of this year, in 2026. The Agnipath Seva Yojana (Fire Warriors) was originally launched in 2022 and allows Agniveers to serve for only four years. Consequently, a plan is underway to reintegrate long-retired Agniveers into service. Several states and departments have already announced reservations for them.
