Agniveer Recruitment: ITI and diploma holders will get priority in Agniveer recruitment; know the reasons..
Agniveer Recruitment: The Agniveer scheme was launched in 2022. The first batch recruited under the Agniveer scheme is scheduled to retire next year. Meanwhile, several changes have been made to the Agniveer recruitment process. Plans are also underway to increase the number of recruits. Regarding the changes in the Agniveer recruitment scheme, candidates with ITI diplomas are being given preference over general candidates. There are several important reasons behind this.
Let's understand why ITI diploma holders are being given preference in Agniveer recruitment. What are the reasons? We will learn how ITI diploma holders have become essential for the Indian Air Force and Indian Navy.
Demand for Technically Skilled Youth in the Armed Forces
In fact, the Indian Army, along with the Indian Air Force and Indian Navy, needs both general duty candidates and technical candidates. The Indian Navy and Indian Air Force, in particular, require more than 50 percent of their recruits to be technically skilled. Now that the nature of army recruitment has changed and all three services are focusing on Agniveer recruitment, ITI diploma holders are being given preference under the Agniveer scheme.
Solving the Training Problem
Before the launch of the Agniveer recruitment scheme, the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and Indian Navy used to provide technical training to candidates after general recruitment. However, now with more recruitments under the Agniveer scheme, and a service tenure of only 4 years, it is not feasible to send candidates for long-term training. Keeping this in mind, ITI diploma holders are being given preference in recruitment under the Agniveer scheme.
Plan to Recruit 1 Lakh Agniveers Annually
The three branches of the Indian Armed Forces – the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and Indian Navy – are currently recruiting 40 to 45 candidates each year under the Agniveer recruitment scheme. Only 25 percent of these young recruits will be made permanent, while the remaining 75 percent will be retired. However, a plan is now being worked out to recruit 100,000 Agniveers every year. This decision is being considered in view of the shortage of personnel in the Indian Army.
