PM Modi said- Half of the total digital transactions in the world are from UPI

UPI Digital India: PM Modi said on Independence Day 2025 that 50% of the world's instant digital transactions are done through UPI. Know the achievements and global expansion of UPI
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the nation from the Red Fort on the occasion of the 79th Independence Day, said that India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has now become a marvel on the global stage. He proudly said that 50 percent of all the instant digital transactions in the world are done through India's UPI platform alone.
Beginning: UPI was launched in the year 2016
Record in 2024-25: In the financial year 2024-25, UPI recorded 18,587 crore transactions and transactions worth ₹261 lakh crore
Achievement of July 2025: In July 2025, UPI touched a new milestone by doing 1,947 crore transactions.
Global expansion: UPI in seven countries
UPI has now made its mark even outside the borders of India. This service is now available in seven countries:
United Arab Emirates
Singapore
Bhutan
Nepal
Sri Lanka
France
Mauritius
Mudra Yojana to self-reliance
The Prime Minister also mentioned the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, under which crores of people have been helped to start small businesses. This scheme has proved to be a strong step towards making India self-reliant.
