Rules for hoisting the tricolor at night

After the amendment in the Indian Flag Code 2002 in 2022, citizens have been allowed to hoist the tricolor at night. Earlier the rule was that the tricolor could be hoisted only from sunrise to sunset. It is worth noting here that there should be proper lighting arrangements for hoisting the tricolor at night, so that the flag is clearly visible and its dignity is maintained.

Other rules for hoisting the tricolor

The tricolor should always be hoisted with saffron color above and green color below. Flying it upside down is considered an insult.

The flag should not be torn, dirty, or faded.

It is neither placed on the ground nor bent

The tricolor should always be kept higher than other flags.

While hoisting the tricolor on the roof, it should be kept in mind that it is in a respectable place and can flutter freely in the wind.

The tricolor cannot be used as decoration, curtain, or cloth.

Apart from this the flag should not be dipped in water.
