The BSF's Air Wing has received its first female flight engineer in its 50-year history. Inspector Bhavana Chaudhary has set a new example of women's empowerment by achieving this feat.

A new history has been created among the brave soldiers guarding the nation's borders. The Border Security Force (BSF) Air Wing has received a female flight engineer for the first time in its more than 50-year history. This achievement was achieved by Inspector Bhavana Chaudhary, who has made not only the BSF but the entire nation proud.

It was a very special moment for the BSF when Director General Daljit Singh Chaudhary presented flying badges to Inspector Bhavana Chaudhary and four other male officers. With this honor, Bhavana Chaudhary's name was etched in the pages of history.

Two Months of Rigorous Training, a New Flight to Success

Inspector Bhavana Chaudhary didn't achieve this feat without reason. She and four other officers completed two months of rigorous and intensive training under the guidance of BSF Air Wing instructors. During this training, which began in August, they received 130 hours of practical flying and technical experience.

During this period, they gained not only theoretical experience but also experience in real-world situations, especially during the floods in Punjab and other states, when helicopter missions were used for relief work. According to BSF officials, these missions helped Bhavna and her colleagues gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and responsibilities of flying.

Inspired by the Air Force, BSF begins its own training.

The BSF's air wing has long faced a shortage of flight engineers for Mi-17 helicopters. Three officers from the first batch were trained by the Indian Air Force, but the second batch could not find training slots with the Air Force for some reason.

Following this, the BSF initiated its own internal training program with the permission of the Ministry of Home Affairs to prepare its own officers for this specialized role. As a result of this initiative, five officers, including Bhavna Chaudhary, are now fully trained flight engineers.

The BSF Air Wing has been flying the skies since 1969.

The BSF was assigned the responsibility of the Home Ministry's aviation unit in 1969. Since then, the wing has served in many difficult terrains across the country, from the deserts of Rajasthan, the icy valleys of Kashmir, or the dense forests of the Northeast. The BSF Air Wing not only monitors border areas but also plays a vital role in missions such as disaster relief, medical evacuation, and humanitarian assistance.
