His appointment is considered a significant step for the Air Force, as he possesses extensive experience, strong leadership, and a record of working in several major operations.

Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor was previously serving as the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the South Western Air Command in Gandhinagar. During this tenure, he made several important decisions and strengthened the Air Force's preparedness. Under his leadership, the South Western Air Command successfully faced many challenges.

Played a crucial role in Operation Sindoor

Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor's name is particularly associated with Operation Sindoor. His strategy and leadership during this operation were highly appreciated. It is said that between May 6 and 10, when the Indian Air Force carried out several precision strikes on Pakistani air bases, Air Marshal Kapoor's role was extremely crucial. Pakistan suffered heavy losses in these operations. For his outstanding contribution to Operation Sindoor, he has been awarded prestigious honors such as the Sarvottam Yudh Seva Medal and the Vishisht Seva Medal. He was also awarded the Sarvottam Yudh Seva Medal earlier this year.

A long journey

Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor's journey in the Air Force spans nearly four decades. He joined the Indian Air Force in the fighter stream on December 6, 1986.  Since then, he has not looked back. He has studied at prestigious institutions like the National Defence Academy (NDA), Defence Services Staff College, and National Defence College. These institutions offer opportunities to only a select few military officers in the country, which speaks volumes about his capabilities. Air Marshal Kapoor is also a qualified flying instructor and fighter combat leader. He has over 3400 hours of flying experience, which is considered a significant achievement for any fighter pilot. He has flown various types of fighter aircraft and has also trained young pilots.

Served in Several Key Positions

Throughout his career, Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor has served in several important field and staff positions. He has been the Commanding Officer of a fighter squadron in the Central Sector. He also served as the Station Commander of a flying base in the Western Sector. He has also served as the Air Officer Commanding of a major air base.

Before becoming the Vice Chief, he was the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Training Command. In this role, he played a crucial part in strengthening the Air Force's training system. He focused particularly on the training of young officers and pilots, ensuring that the Air Force is better prepared for the future.
