How to get a job in the Air Force after Class 12?
Joining the Air Force right after Class 12 is an excellent decision. Whether it is the path to becoming an officer through the NDA or the option to serve in technical and non-technical roles under 'Agniveer Vayu,' each route has its own unique features and eligibility criteria. Here is how you can become a part of the Indian Air Force after Class 12.
NDA Entry: The best path to becoming an officer
After passing the Class 12 board exams (with Physics and Mathematics in the Science stream being mandatory), you can join the Air Force directly as a Flying or Ground Duty Officer through the Union Public Service Commission's (UPSC) National Defence Academy (NDA) examination.
Age Limit: For the UPSC NDA exam, the candidate's age must generally be between 16.5 and 19.5 years.
Selection Process: The process involves a written examination, followed by an SSB interview, and finally, a rigorous medical test. Agniveer Vayu: An Opportunity to Serve the Nation at a Young Age
Under the government's Agniveer scheme, the 'Agniveer Vayu' option is becoming increasingly popular among youth who have completed Class 12. Through this, young individuals join the Air Force as airmen for a tenure of four years.
Eligibility: Students who have passed Class 12 in the Science stream (Mathematics, Physics, and English) as well as those from other streams (Arts/Commerce) are eligible to apply.
Age Limit: Candidates must be between 17.5 and 21 years of age at the time of application.
Selection Process: Selection is based on an online written examination, a Physical Fitness Test (PFT), and an adaptability test.
AFCAT: An Option After Graduation
This is primarily an entry route available after graduation. However, Class 12 students should be aware that upon completing their college education, they can become Commissioned Officers directly in the Flying and Ground Duty (Technical/Non-Technical) branches through the AFCAT (Air Force Common Admission Test). Eligibility requires a minimum of 60% marks in graduation and 50% marks in Mathematics and Physics in Class 12.
Merely having academic knowledge is not enough to join the Indian Air Force; physical fitness, mental awareness, and dedication to the country are of paramount importance.
