JoSAA 2026 IISc Admission: If you wish to pursue engineering after Class 12 and have an inclination towards research and cutting-edge technology, this news is for you. The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru—one of the country's most prestigious institutions—has launched three new, state-of-the-art B.Tech programs starting this year. If you are looking for a top-tier alternative to IITs, IISc Bangalore could give your career a significant boost.

Three New Courses Launching in 2026
IISc Bangalore already offers a B.Tech program in 'Mathematics and Computing' (launched in the 2022-23 academic year). However, starting from the 2026-27 academic year, the institute is introducing three new courses:

Aerospace Engineering
Mechanics and Computing
Materials Science and Engineering

All these are four-year (eight-semester) courses comprising a total of 128 credits. Classes for these programs are set to begin in August of this year.

What Makes These Courses Special?
1. Aerospace Engineering

This course is designed for students interested in aviation and space technology. It covers the design of aircraft and rockets, aerodynamics, propulsion systems, and control systems. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to work on 'Design-Build-Fly' projects in specialized laboratories. From the third year onwards, students can also engage in research by selecting subjects of their choice.

2. Materials Science and Engineering
This course is crucial for future technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), quantum computing, space missions, and modern healthcare. Students will study advanced metals, ceramics, polymers, and biomaterials—materials that will be essential for constructing the machines of the future.

3. Mechanics and Computing
This course offers an excellent blend of traditional mechanical engineering and computer coding. In this program, students will learn to improve the design and functionality of machines using technologies such as robotics, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Machine Learning (ML). It also offers opportunities to work on live industry projects.

4. Mathematics and Computing (Existing Course)
This course is ideal for students interested in mathematics, computer science, and data science. A major advantage is that students can work on AI-based medicine by collaborating on projects with the institute's medical school.

How to get admission?
The admission process for these BTech courses at IISc Bangalore is very straightforward. You do not need to visit a separate portal:

Eligibility
Students must meet the JoSAA rules and Class 12 eligibility criteria established for admission to IITs.
