GST Reforms 2025: The government has made stationery, books, and school fees tax free by implementing new GST rates, which will reduce the cost of studies.

Will school fees be reduced?

After the new GST rates, there is going to be a big relief in the cost of studies in our lives. With the recent GST reforms done by the central government, stationery items like children's copy, books, pencils, sharpeners, erasers will now become very cheap, because the tax on them has been completely abolished.

Now no GST tax will have to be paid for buying school children's copy, notebook, exercise book, graph book, lab notebook, books, slate, chalk, blackboard and other stationery items. Earlier, these things were taxed up to 12%, which made their price higher. Now with the reduction in their price, the cost of children's studies will also be reduced. This decision is most beneficial for parents of young children, because things like pencil, sharpener, eraser have to be bought every month.

On how many things has tax been abolished?

Pencil, sharpener, crayon, pastel, eraser, maps, charts, globe, notebook, practice books, drawing books, news, magazines, children's colors, slate, chalk, blackboard. All these things used to attract 12% or 5% GST earlier, which has now become zero.

Change in school fees too?

With this new change, government school, college education, examination fees, coaching and scholarship services were already out of the scope of tax. That is, the cost of education will be reduced directly, no tax will be levied on school fees. Yes, if someone takes a professional course or online coaching, then 18% tax will still be applicable on it.

Common man gets relief

Shopping will also become cheaper after the new rates. If earlier a globe was available for Rs 500 with 12% tax, now it will cost around Rs 446 without tax. Parents will now get direct benefit in the school expenses of their children. Children from poor sections will find it easier to buy books and copies because their prices will be reduced.

Which rates were implemented?

Earlier there were four tax slabs in the country, 5%, 12%, 18% and 28%. Now the government has changed it to only two rates - 5% and 18%. The 12% and 28% slabs have been abolished. This will provide the most relief in everyday things, school stationery as well as household items will be available at a bit simple tax.

When will the new rates be implemented?

The government has announced that these new rates will be implemented from September 22. So from next month, if someone buys stationery items, he will not have to pay tax, which will make shopping easier.

Why is it necessary for stationery to be cheap?

With the abolition of tax on study material, studying will become easier for everyone. Poor children will no longer face problems in buying things like books, notebooks, pencils etc. This will help in continuing studies and the budget of parents will also improve.
