Why did the Supreme Court reject the demand for re-examination for NEET-UG 2024, listed these reasons
The Supreme Court today fixed the scope of work for the committee formed by the government. Also told why the court rejected the demand for re-examination.
The Supreme Court today gave information about why NEET UG was not canceled despite allegations of a paper leak. Also, the scope of work for the committee formed by the government has been fixed. The Supreme Court said that we did not find systematic deficiencies in the case of NEET UG. The paper leak has happened only in Patna and Hazaribagh in Jharkhand, it had no widespread impact. In such a situation, cancellation of the exam would have affected lakhs of students and it would have had a direct impact on their morale.
Cannot ignore the shortcomings of NTA
The court said that we talked about the shortcomings of NTA. We cannot ignore the shortcomings of NTA given the interest of the students. The court said that the government should remove these shortcomings this year itself so that such a situation does not arise again. The court further said that we have decided the scope of work of the committee appointed by the government.
The scope was decided by the committee.
The Supreme Court told the committee that during the work, the committee should consider exam security, deciding standard operating procedures, reviewing the process of allotment of exam centers, CCTV monitoring of exam centers, ensuring that there is no tampering in the paper-making arrangements for redressal of complaints, securing logistics to ensure that there is no tampering in the question papers and the arrangement of sending the paper in a closed vehicle with real-time electronic lock system instead of open e-rickshaws.
Students are advised to go to the High Court.
Along with this, the committee has been asked to ensure the identity of the candidates appearing for the exam and prepare SOP for storage to prevent paper leaks, if someone's complaint has been resolved by the SC decision, then he can go to HC, we conclude that the paper leak is not systematic and the paper leak has not happened on a large scale. That is why we rejected the demand for re-examination of NEET. Further instructed NTA to take care of the future. Avoid this kind of negligence.
Time is given to the committee
The Supreme Court reiterated that the dignity of the entire examination was not affected. The court gave time till 30 September 2024 to decide the report of the committee. The central government had told the court that a committee would be formed under the chairmanship of former ISRO Chairman K Radhakrishnan to prevent irregularities like NEET in competitive examinations in the future. The court has today decided the scope of the same committee. The Supreme Court said that after hearing the arguments of all the parties, we concluded that these were not systematic failures. The impact of the paper leak was limited to Hazaribagh and Patna. We have pointed out the infrastructural flaws.
