AMU has a 5% reservation for the PwBD category, which provides significant concessions in admissions and fees. The university has also provided special relaxations for such candidates in age, marks, and fees.

Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), located in the Aligarh district of Uttar Pradesh, is no stranger to fame. A large number of students across the country aspire to study at this university, but only a select few receive this opportunity. Let's find out which students receive a reservation at the university.

For the 2025-26 academic year, AMU offered 5% reservation to students enrolled under the PwBD (Persons with Benchmark Disabilities) category. However, this reservation is not uniformly applicable to every course. The university stated that in most courses, this 5% reservation will be additional to existing seats, meaning new seats will be added over and above the approved intake so that seats for the general category are not reduced.

However, in some professional courses, such as MBBS, BDS, BUMS, B.Sc Nursing, B.Arch, postgraduate courses in the medical faculty, and PhD, this reservation is within the existing seats. Seats are not increased in these courses; instead, a 5% share for PwBD is allocated within the available seats.

What documents are required?

To benefit from this category, a candidate must have proof of at least 40% disability. It has also been clarified that PwBD candidates will only be able to take admission in courses where their disability does not hinder their studies.

Regarding financial concessions, AMU has provided significant relief to PwBD students. While students typically pay an admission test fee, PwBD candidates will only need to pay ₹100 upon application. Similarly, upon admission, they will only need to pay ₹100 as tuition fee. However, this exemption will not be available to candidates who are on fellowships or who secure admission through the Self-Finance, NRI, or Foreign National quotas.

Percentage Relaxation in Qualifications

These students have also been given significant benefits in eligibility. PwBD candidates will receive a 5% relaxation in the qualifying exam. This means that where 50% marks are required for general students, PwBD candidates will be considered eligible even with 45% marks. This same relaxation will also apply to the admission test. Furthermore, where courses have a maximum age limit, PwBD candidates will be given a five-year age relaxation. However, this relaxation will not apply to courses where the age limit is set by an external council or regulatory body.

What if there are no candidates from the PwBD category?

If a particular course does not have eligible candidates from the PwBD category, and reservations apply within the existing seats, the vacant seats will be transferred to the general category. However, this rule will not apply to PhD programs.
