Which are the three IITs where 97 JEE Advanced toppers took admission?
Best IITs in India: Securing a top rank in the JEE Advanced examination is a dream for every engineering student. At the same time, choosing the right IIT based on that rank is a major decision. This year, three Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have emerged as the top choices for the highest-ranking students. According to a report by the Joint Implementation Committee (JIC) released by IIT Roorkee, 97 out of the top 100 All India rankers in JEE Advanced 2026 enrolled in IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, and IIT Madras. Notably, the highest number of these students chose IIT Bombay.
IIT Bombay Emerges as Toppers' Top Choice
When looking at the preferences of the top 100 rankers in JEE Advanced 2026, IIT Bombay led the pack; 68 of these students enrolled there. Meanwhile, a total of 29 students enrolled in IIT Delhi and IIT Madras. Consequently, only three of the country's top 100 rankers chose an IIT other than these three institutes.
However, a slight difference was observed in the preferences of the top 25 rankers. In this group, eight students each enrolled in IIT Delhi and IIT Madras, while six chose IIT Bombay. This indicates significant interest among the highest-ranking students in these three institutes.
How Many Students Enrolled in IITs This Year?
Based on JEE Advanced 2026 results, a total of 18,861 students enrolled in IITs this year. This figure included 3,814 female students, meaning women constituted approximately 20.2 percent of the total students admitted to IITs. Last year, this figure stood at 20.15 percent. In this context, there has been a marginal increase in the share of female students securing admission to IITs.
Highest number of female students qualified in six years
An improvement in the performance of female students has also been observed in the JEE Advanced 2026 results. According to the report, the qualification rate for female candidates rose from 21.7% in 2025 to 23.4% in 2026. This marks the highest rate recorded over the six-year period from 2021 to 2026. This implies that approximately one in every four female students who registered for the exam this year successfully qualified.
