What is the AEDP course? Students who have passed Class 12 are receiving job training and a stipend..
There is a major update for students in Bihar. An Apprenticeship-Embedded Degree Program (AEDP) has been launched in the state for students who have passed Class 12. This program offers several features; notably, students enrolling in the AEDP will receive a threefold benefit: a graduation degree upon completion, along with job training and a stipend. Admission to this course is open to students after Class 12. The AEDP has been designed in alignment with UGC guidelines and the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Let us understand what the AEDP launched in Bihar entails, and how enrolled students will receive job training and a stipend. Here are the details.
**An initiative to link students with employment-oriented education**
The Bihar government has launched the Apprenticeship-Embedded Degree Program (AEDP) as an initiative to connect students with employment-oriented education. Designed for students who have passed Class 12, this program offers a graduation degree combined with job training. A key feature is the provision of a stipend during the job training period.
**Three colleges in Bihar have launched the AEDP**
The Bihar government has rolled out the AEDP. Currently, the program has been introduced in three colleges affiliated with a state university—specifically, three colleges under BRA Bihar University have been selected. These include Lakshmi Narayan Dubey College, Motihari, among others.
**A 4-year AEDP comprising 8 semesters**
Regarding its structure, the AEDP is a four-year graduation program consisting of eight semesters. The admission process is currently underway, with preparations to commence the academic session in September. A distinctive feature of this four-year program is the curriculum split: 75% of the coursework focuses on academic education, while 25% is dedicated to industry-based skill training. In the third year, students will be required to undergo a mandatory, stipend-based apprenticeship within the industry. Courses such as BA in Content and Creative Writing, B.Com in Banking, Financial Services and Insurance, and B.Com in Retail Operations are being conducted under AEDP. These courses will have the same validity as other undergraduate courses.
