To become a Lieutenant in the Indian Army, there are avenues like NDA or Technical Entry after 12th grade, and CDS after graduation. Let's learn how you can serve the country as a Lieutenant in the Army.

Every year, thousands of young people dream of wearing the national uniform and wearing stars on their shoulders. Becoming a Lieutenant in the Indian Army is considered a matter of pride for them. But this dream isn't achieved simply through enthusiasm; it requires proper education, proper preparation, and a strong determination. If you also want to become a Lieutenant, first understand the necessary education and the various avenues available to you.

You can become an officer through the NDA

After 12th grade, you can directly pursue the path to becoming an officer through the National Defence Academy (NDA) exam. Physics, Chemistry, and Math are required in 12th grade. The NDA exam is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission. It consists of a written exam, in which questions related to mathematics and general knowledge are asked. This is followed by an SSB interview and medical examination. If you pass this exam, you undergo three years of training. After completing the training, you can be appointed to the rank of Lieutenant.

The Technical Entry Scheme is also an option.

If you have scored well in Physics, Chemistry, and Math in 12th grade, you can also join the Army through the Technical Entry Scheme (TES). Selection is based on JEE Main scores. This is followed by an SSB interview. Candidates who choose this route get a chance in the technical branch.

CDS Exam Can Become an Officer

The most important path after graduation is the CDS exam. This exam is also conducted by the Union Public Service Commission. A bachelor's degree from a recognized university is required. After passing the exam, there is an SSB interview and medical examination. If selected, training is provided, followed by appointment to the rank of Lieutenant.

NCC Special Entry

If you participated in NCC during college and have a 'C' certificate, you have a special opportunity. Graduation with at least 50 percent marks is required. This entry does not require a written exam; you are directly called for an SSB interview.

Special Opportunity for Engineers and Law Graduates

Engineering students have the opportunity to join the technical branch of the Army. Such candidates can apply through the technical entry. Law students are also not far behind. If you have completed an LLB degree with at least 55 percent marks, you can become a legal officer in the Army through the Judge Advocate General (JAG) entry.

Keep Age and Fitness in Mind

Age and Fitness are essential to become an officer in the Army. The typical age limit for NDA and TES is between 16.5 and 19.5 years. The CDS entry is around 19 to 25 years. Physical fitness is also crucial. There are various tests, including running, height, weight, and eyesight. The SSB interview assesses your thinking, confidence, leadership skills, and teamwork skills.
