DUSU Elections 2025: Voting is taking place today in 52 colleges at Delhi University, with 21 candidates vying for four key positions.
The DUSU elections, considered the biggest celebration of student politics at Delhi University, are being held in a special way this time. Voting began today, and students from 52 colleges, departments, and institutes are casting their ballots to elect their representatives. Twenty-one candidates are contesting this election, and a fierce contest is expected for four key positions: President, Vice President, Secretary, and Joint Secretary.
The biggest attraction of the DUSU elections is the presidential position. This time, it has been made even more special by female candidates. The Congress student wing, NSUI, has nominated a woman for the presidential position after 17 years. Jocelyn Nandita Chaudhary is contesting on behalf of the NSUI. Meanwhile, the ABVP has expressed confidence in Aryan Mann. Anjali from the Left alliance (AISA and SFI) has also staked her claim for the presidential post.
Not only this, a total of seven female students are in the fray this time, three of whom have already contested for the presidential post. The last time the ABVP's Nupur Sharma won the presidential election was in 2009. The presence of female candidates makes the 2025 election even more interesting.
A straight three-way contest for the Vice President position
The contest for the Vice President position is also fierce. Govind Tanwar from the ABVP, Rahul Jhansla from the NSUI, and Sohan Kumar from the Left alliance are in the fray. Interestingly, all three candidates are students of the Buddhist Studies Department.
There is also competition for the Secretary and Joint Secretary positions
For the Secretary position, Kunal Chaudhary from the ABVP and Kabir from the NSUI are facing off. Abhinandana from the Left panel is the contender for this post. Kunal is a student of the Department of Buddhist Studies, while Kabir is studying at Law Centre-2.
In the race for Joint Secretary, the ABVP has expressed confidence in Deepika Jha, a student of the Department of Buddhist Studies. Luvkush Bhadana from the NSUI and Abhishek Kumar from Hindu College are in the fray from the Left panel.
Colleges are bustling with activity and student enthusiasm
The elections have been underway in colleges since morning. Voting in colleges with morning sessions will be held from 8:30 am to 1 pm. Voting in evening colleges will be held from 3 pm to 7:30 pm. Approximately 2.75 lakh student voters will cast their votes in this election.
According to the Delhi University administration, approximately 700 EVMs are being used this time. However, voting is still being conducted using ballot papers at the college level.
The results will be announced on September 19th.
