Voting for DUSU Elections Today: Who Are the Candidates in the Fray?

A total of 20 candidates are in the fray for four central posts—President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Joint Secretary—at Delhi University (DU). Voting will be conducted in two shifts, while the vote counting is scheduled for tomorrow, September 19.

Voting for the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections is taking place today, September 18. A total of 20 candidates are contesting for the four central posts: President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Joint Secretary. Voting will be held in two shifts, and the vote counting will take place tomorrow, September 19, at the Multipurpose Hall of the University Sports Stadium in North Campus. This year, in addition to candidates from ABVP, NSUI, and the AISA-SFI alliance, several independent candidates and those affiliated with other organizations are also in the race. Among the 20 candidates, seven are contesting for the post of President, five for Vice-President, four for Secretary, and four for Joint Secretary.

Voting Began at 8:30 AM

Students attending day classes can cast their votes between 8:30 AM and 1:00 PM. Meanwhile, for students attending evening classes, the voting time is set from 3:00 PM to 7:30 PM. Vote counting will commence at 8:00 AM on September 19. A large number of student voters are participating in this election. The university has also arranged for EVMs (Electronic Voting Machines) for the voting process.

7 Candidates for the Post of President

For the post of President at DU, ABVP has fielded Yash Dabas, NSUI has fielded Vijay Shankar Meena, and the AISA-SFI alliance has fielded Ananya Raturi. Additionally, Ashmit Kumar, Ejaz Mansoori, Samarth Beniwal, and Sameer Kumar are also in the fray for the presidential post.

Candidates for the Post of Vice-President

For the post of Vice-President, Ishu Maurya (ABVP), Veer Chhatrath (NSUI), and Akshat Shikhar (AISA-SFI) are contesting the election. Apart from them, Aranya Singh Rathore and Deepanshu Shaukeen are also candidates for this post.

Four candidates for the post of Secretary

For the post of Secretary, ABVP has fielded Riya Chhabri, NSUI has fielded Namrata Chaudhary, and the AISA-SFI alliance has fielded Stanzin Deskyong. Additionally, Pankaj Kumar is also contesting the election.

Four candidates for the post of Joint Secretary

For the post of Joint Secretary, the candidates are Lakshya Raj Singh (ABVP), Gopal Chaudhary (NSUI), and Parijat (AISA-SFI alliance). Vishesh Yadav is also in the fray for this position.

Election amidst tight security arrangements

In view of the election, security has been stepped up across Delhi University’s North and South Campuses. Police and paramilitary forces have been deployed. From a security perspective, the North Campus has been divided into 5 zones and 23 sectors. Barricades and pickets have been set up at college gates and other key locations. Extra surveillance is being maintained at sensitive spots, considering certain incidents that occurred on campus prior to the election. Restrictions on vehicular movement have also been imposed on major roads, including Chandrabagh Road, Robin Road, and University Road.
