UPTET 2026: UPTET Notification Released; Applications Begin Tomorrow—New Process Creates a Buzz
The application process for UPTET 2026 is about to commence. This time, OTR (One-Time Registration) has been made mandatory. Candidates can apply online via the official website, upessc.up.gov.in. Read on to learn how to register.
If you aspire to become a teacher in Uttar Pradesh, there is great news for you. The application process for UPTET 2026 is set to begin, and several significant changes have been introduced this time around. Notably, it is now mandatory for all candidates to complete their OTR—or One-Time Registration—before applying. Without completing this step, you will be unable to fill out the application form.
This year, the dates related to the examination have been announced well in advance to ensure candidates have ample time to prepare. The application process will commence on March 27, 2026, and will continue until April 26, 2026. Meanwhile, the examination itself is scheduled to be conducted on July 2, 3, and 4, 2026. Therefore, candidates are advised not to wait until the last minute but to submit their applications in a timely manner.
UPTET is not merely an examination; it serves as the foundational step toward becoming a teacher. Passing this examination is a mandatory prerequisite for securing a teaching position in government and government-aided schools across Uttar Pradesh. Without clearing this test, you cannot apply for teacher recruitment opportunities. This is precisely why hundreds of thousands of candidates appear for this examination every year.
Why is OTR Essential?
The most significant change introduced this time concerns the OTR system. OTR, or One-Time Registration, is a process wherein a candidate is required to submit their basic personal details only once. Upon completion, a unique OTR ID is generated, which can subsequently be utilized for all future recruitment processes. For UPTET 2026, possession of this OTR ID has been made mandatory. In other words, you will be unable to proceed with your application without a valid OTR ID.
What are the Eligibility Criteria?
The UPTET examination comprises two distinct levels: Primary and Upper Primary. For the Primary level (Classes 1 to 5), it is mandatory for the candidate to have passed Class 12, along with holding a D.El.Ed or an equivalent diploma.
For the Upper Primary level (Classes 6 to 8), the candidate must possess a graduation degree with a minimum of 50% marks, accompanied by a B.Ed or D.El.Ed degree.
How to Apply for UPTET 2026?
The process of filling out the UPTET application form has now been streamlined compared to before. First, the candidate must visit the OTR portal to complete their registration. Subsequently, they are required to upload their photograph, signature, and necessary documents. Next, using their OTR ID to log in, they must fill out the application form, which will request details regarding their educational qualifications and the desired examination level (Primary or Upper Primary). Following this, the application fee must be submitted online; finally, the form should be submitted, and a printout of the submitted form should be taken.
