UPTET 2026: Good News! Even Candidates with Less Than 50% Marks in Graduation Can Fill Out the Form—Here Is the Only Condition..
UPTET 2026 Online Form & Eligibility: The online application process for the UP Teacher Eligibility Test (UPTET) 2026 is currently underway. After a long wait of four years, the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC) has released the application forms for UPTET. This comes as great news for the lakhs of young aspirants in Uttar Pradesh who dream of securing a government teaching job. Candidates who scored less than 50 percent marks in their graduation are also eligible to fill out the UPTET form.
The online registration process for UPTET 2026 commenced on March 27, 2026. Interested and eligible candidates may submit their online application forms until April 26, 2026. Many young aspirants refrain from applying for UPTET under the misconception that they are ineligible because they scored less than 50 percent marks in their graduation. However, even those with scores below 50 percent can indeed apply for UPTET. Let us understand the specific conditions:
How can candidates with less than 50% marks apply for UPTET?
Indeed, securing a minimum of 50 percent marks in graduation is generally a prerequisite for applying to UPTET. However, it is not the case that one is automatically barred from applying solely based on having low marks in graduation. In several instances, candidates with scores below 50 percent have also been granted the opportunity to apply, as outlined below:
If you have scored less than 50 percent in your graduation but have secured more than 50 percent marks in your postgraduate studies, you are eligible to fill out the UPTET form.
A relaxation of 5 percent is granted to candidates belonging to reserved categories. SC, ST, OBC, and Divyang (differently-abled) candidates are entitled to a 5 percent relaxation in the minimum qualifying marks. This means that candidates from reserved categories who have secured 45% marks are also eligible to apply.
Candidates who completed their B.Ed. degree before a specific cut-off date (in accordance with NCTE regulations) are permitted to apply for UPTET even if they have secured only 45% marks in their graduation.
For candidates holding a BTC or D.El.Ed. qualification, a four-year B.El.Ed. degree, or a 'Diploma in Teaching' from Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), the requirement of securing more than 50 percent marks in graduation does not apply. For further details, please read the UPTET notification carefully.
