The online application process for UPTET 2026 commenced on March 27. Many young candidates are refraining from applying, under the misconception that they are ineligible due to having scored less than 50% in their graduation. However, this is not the case; candidates with less than 50% marks are indeed eligible to apply. Let us understand the specific conditions:
**Less than 50% Marks? You Can Still Apply for UPTET**
If you have scored less than 50% in your graduation but more than 50% in your post-graduation, you are eligible to apply for UPTET.
Candidates belonging to reserved categories—SC/ST, OBC, and Persons with Disabilities—are granted a relaxation of 5%. This means that candidates from these categories are eligible to apply even if they have secured 45% marks.
Candidates who completed their B.Ed. Before a specific cutoff date (in accordance with NCTE regulations), candidates are also permitted to apply for UPTET, provided they have secured at least 45% marks in their graduation.
Furthermore, the mandatory requirement of securing 50% marks in graduation does not apply to candidates who have completed BTC, D.El.Ed., or the four-year B.El.Ed. program, or a Diploma in Teaching from Aligarh Muslim University.
