UPSC Result 2024: Two Weeks After Results Were Released, a Candidate Gets a Chance, Find Out How This Happened..
UPSC CSE 2024 Result Update: Significant news has emerged for students preparing for the UPSC examinations. Although a considerable amount of time has passed since the final results of the Civil Services Examination 2024 were declared, in a twist of fate, the dream of yet another candidate has finally come true. Notably, a candidate has been selected a full year after the results were originally published. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) itself confirmed this development by issuing a new official notice.
What is the full story?
In its notice, the UPSC stated that the results for the Civil Services Examination 2024 were declared on April 22, 2025. Based on merit, 1,009 candidates were recommended for appointment against 1,129 vacancies across various services—including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and various Group 'A' and Group 'B' Central Services.
It is worth noting that following the declaration of the aforementioned final results, and acting upon a request from the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), the Commission released a 'Reserve List' of 114 candidates on October 28, 2025. This list comprised 94 candidates from the General Category, 05 from the EWS Category, 13 from the OBC Category, 01 from the SC Category, and 01 from the ST Category.
Who has received the opportunity now?
The latest update reveals that, to fill the remaining vacancies from the Reserve List, the Commission has recommended one additional name. This fortunate candidate is Veergandham Lakshmi Sujitha (Roll Number: 6206417). Veergandham Lakshmi Sujitha has been selected from the General Category. The relevant government department will now directly communicate with her to initiate the training process.
How does the selection process work?
It is pertinent to mention that every year, hundreds of thousands of candidates—aspiring to become IAS, IPS, or IFS officers—appear for the Civil Services Examination. Through this examination, candidates are selected for various services, including the IAS, IPS, IFS, Indian Railway Accounts Service, Indian Postal Service, Indian Dak Service, and Indian Trade Service, among others. This examination is conducted in three stages: Prelims, Mains, and finally, an Interview. The merit list is prepared based on the Mains and the Interview.
