UPSC Releases ESE 2027 Notification; Engineers from These Branches Can Apply

Candidates holding an engineering degree can apply through this examination for recruitment into Group A and Group B services under the Central Government. The Commission has also commenced the online application process as of September 16, 2026.

UPSC has released the notification for the Engineering Services Examination (ESE) 2027. Candidates possessing an engineering degree can apply for recruitment to Group A and Group B engineering services under the Central Government through this exam. The online application process began on September 16, 2026, and interested candidates can apply until October 6, 2026. Recruitment via UPSC ESE 2027 will cover posts in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering. Approximately 480 vacancies have been announced this time, with 19 posts reserved for candidates with disabilities (PwD).

When will the UPSC ESE 2027 exam be held?

According to the UPSC examination calendar, the ESE 2027 Preliminary Examination will be conducted on January 31, 2027. The exam will take place in two shifts: Paper 1 will be held from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM, and Paper 2 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The Preliminary Examination will carry a total of 500 marks. Paper 1 will be worth 200 marks and will consist of questions related to General Studies and Engineering Aptitude. Paper 2 will carry 300 marks and will feature questions specific to the candidate's engineering discipline. Subsequently, the ESE 2027 Main Examination is scheduled for June 18, 2027. Candidates with degrees in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering are eligible to apply for UPSC ESE 2027. Applicants must hold a BE or B.Tech degree from a recognized university. Other eligibility criteria specified in the notification will also apply.

Age limit and application deadline

Applicants must be between 21 and 30 years of age as of January 1, 2027. Age relaxation will be granted to reserved and eligible categories in accordance with government regulations: 5 years for SC/ST candidates, 3 years for OBC candidates, and 10 years for PwD candidates. The application process for UPSC ESE 2027 began on September 16, and the deadline to apply is October 6. Candidates can fill out the form via the official UPSC website and application portal. Based on the previous ESE notification, the application fee was ₹200; however, female, SC, ST, and PwBD candidates were exempted from the fee.
