The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has introduced a major change regarding the Civil Services Examination 2026. For the first time, a provisional answer key for the Civil Services Preliminary Examination will now be released immediately after the exam concludes. This decision has been taken to enhance transparency and provide candidates with a timely opportunity to register their objections. Previously, the Commission used to make the answer key public only after the final results were declared, which prevented students from accurately assessing their performance. Under the new system, candidates will be able to cross-check their answers immediately after the examination and make better-informed decisions regarding their future preparations.

**Prelims Examination to be Held on May 24**
The UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2026 is scheduled to be held on May 24, 2026. The Commission has stated that a provisional answer key will be released following the examination to enable candidates to verify their answers. Candidates had long been demanding this change, arguing that there was previously no effective mechanism for registering objections regarding specific questions or answers within the examination.

**Objections Can Now Be Registered promptly**
With the implementation of this new system, candidates will be able to register their objections online. According to the Commission, candidates may submit their grievances or suggestions via the online 'Question Paper Representation Portal' (QPRep) until 6:00 PM on May 31, 2026. This facility will be accessible on the UPSC's official online portal.

**Reducing Uncertainty for Candidates**
Every year, more than 500,000 candidates appear for the UPSC Preliminary Examination, yet only 12,000 to 15,000 candidates qualify for the Main Examination. Previously, students often faced uncertainty regarding whether they should focus on preparing for the Main Examination or shift their attention to the Preliminary Examination for the following year. Now, with the timely release of the Prelims answer key, candidates will be able to quickly gauge their standing.

**Chairman Ajay Kumar Hails It as a Major Initiative**
UPSC Chairman Ajay Kumar stated that this step represents a significant initiative aimed at making the examination process more transparent, accountable, and participatory. He added that the Commission seeks to strengthen the trust of candidates while upholding a fair and merit-based selection process.
