UPSC Gives Big Relief to Aspirants: 3 New Exam Centres Added, Over 23,000 Candidates Choose Them
The UPSC has provided significant relief to lakhs of aspirants by adding three new examination centers in Bhubaneswar, Kanpur, and Meerut for the Civil Services Examination 2026.
Regarding the UPSC Civil Services Examination—widely considered one of the toughest competitive exams in the country—a distinct sense of enthusiasm is palpable among lakhs of young aspirants this time around. While some are preparing from their villages, others are immersed day and night in their books within rented rooms in major cities. Amidst this scenario, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has offered substantial relief to aspirants by adding three new examination centers. Notably, students have warmly embraced these new centers, with over 23,000 candidates selecting them as their preferred choices.
Consequently, the total number of examination centers for the Civil Services Examination has risen from 80 to 83. This time, Bhubaneswar, Kanpur, and Meerut have been included as new examination centers. The UPSC states that this move will help alleviate overcrowding at existing centers and facilitate easier travel for students.
Relief-Filled News for Lakhs of Students
According to a statement issued by the UPSC, approximately 23,000 candidates have opted for these new centers. This has significantly reduced the pressure on examination centers located in neighboring cities. Every year, a large number of students travel to other cities to take the examination, leading to increased difficulties regarding travel, accommodation, and expenses.
However, this initiative is expected to bring relief to thousands of students.
UPSC Chairman Ajay Kumar stated that the Commission is continuously working towards making the examination process more accessible, convenient, and student-centric. He emphasized that the objective behind adding new centers is not merely to reduce overcrowding, but also to provide better facilities to the students.
Which Center Did How Many Students Choose?
All three newly added centers received a positive response from students. The Bhubaneswar center received the highest number of applications, totaling 10,656. This helped reduce the pressure on the Cuttack center. The Kanpur center was chosen by 6,938 students, thereby easing the congestion at the Lucknow center. The Meerut center was chosen by 5,902 candidates. This has proven particularly beneficial for students from Western Uttar Pradesh, who will no longer have to rely heavily on Ghaziabad.
Preliminary Examination to be Held This Sunday
The UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination is scheduled to be held this Sunday. Every year, lakhs of students appear for this examination, yet success eludes all but a few candidates. Through this examination, officers are selected for various prestigious services, including the IAS, IPS, and IFS. This time, the UPSC has received a total of 819,372 applications. This figure underscores the immense allure that the Civil Services hold for the country’s youth.
Special Arrangements for Candidates with Disabilities
This time, the UPSC has also made special arrangements for candidates with disabilities. The Commission stated that efforts were made to allot centers of their choice to those candidates requiring special facilities. Additional seats were also created wherever necessary. In the Delhi region alone, approximately 805 PwBD (Persons with Benchmark Disabilities) candidates were allotted examination centers of their preference. This is being hailed as a significant and sensitive initiative by the UPSC.
