The UP government has launched a new scheme for children living in remote areas, which aims to increase attendance in schools. Under this initiative, those students will get an allowance of Rs 6000 per year, who do not have any government school within a radius of 5 km from their home. This scheme will be implemented in 6 districts of Sonbhadra and Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh, Jhansi, Chitrakoot, Jalaun, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Banda and Sonbhadra, where reaching the school remains a big challenge for the children.
Students from classes 9 to 12 are included in the scheme
This allowance will be given to students from classes 9 to 12. The necessary condition for this is that the student's house should be more than 5 km away from the government school. This scheme will come into effect from the 2025-26 session.
What is the process of getting money?
This annual allowance will be sent directly to the bank accounts of the students through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Under the scheme, the first installment of the allowance will be released by September 5.
To avail the scheme, students will have to submit a declaration form, which will state that there is no government school within a radius of 5 km from their house.
It will be necessary to get this declaration verified by the village head. Also, verification will have to be done from the principal of the school in which the student has taken admission.
These declaration forms will also be verified by the local counselor, after which the students will start getting the allowance.
Attendance should be complete.
The students who are availing this allowance will have to show at least a 10% increase in their regular attendance. Only then will they continue to get the allowance.
Girls of PM Shri will also be included.
Girls of 146 government schools coming under the Pradhan Mantri School Vikas Yojana i.e., PM Shri will also be able to avail the benefits of this scheme. This will help the girls studying in rural and backward areas.
